Chili Cook
Off and Carnival
Last week we
hosted our 6th Annual Chili Cook Off, which was extremely successful.
We had 20 pots of chili entered in a variety of flavors and heats.
This year we had to change our "White Chili " category to
non-traditional due to two green chilies joining the mix. The winners
of the evening were: "Best Dressed Chili Chef" - Robin
Adams; "Best Non-Traditional Chili" - Kenneth
Harkness; "Best Traditional Red Chili" - Robin
Adams; "Best Vegetarian Chili" - Susan Rhoades;
and"Best Hot! Hot! Hot! Chili" - Lisa Nichols.
This year's 2011 Golden Pepper Award was given by our chili tasting
public to Robin Adams.
While tongues
were dancing in the Cyber Café, children were hopping, biking,
throwing, and having a wonderful time at the Carnival. There
were games for all ages and fun was had by all.
The evening
ended with the Chili Cook Off's largest donation to the
Saratoga Regional YMCA's "We Build People" scholarship
campaign yet. The grand total was $1,787.00, just $13 shy of
doubling last year's contribution.
Thank you to
everyone who participated and made the evening such a success!
We hope you enjoyed the evening as much as we did and we will see you
at our 7th Annual Chili Cook Off in 2012!

We Build People
What is the We Build People Campaign?
Our annual
scholarship campaign is the major fundraising campaign of the YMCA.
Funds raised help those who need it most by providing financial
assistance to youth, teens, families and other individuals and
ensures that no one is denied the opportunity to share in the
YMCA experience due to the inability to pay.
In 2010, we gave out over $850,000 in scholarships and naval
subsidies. This program provided over 900 scholarships.
Your
tax-deductible contribution to the YMCA Annual Scholarship Campaign
is a great investment in your community because it helps those who
need it most--potentially your family, friends, neighbors and
co-workers.
"There is
no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting
people up."

Get
in shape for spring and speed up a slow metabolism.
People
have a biological tendency to slow down metabolically and to gain
weight during winter months, so it's important to get that jump-start
into a fat-burning machine. Eat a high protein breakfast. Research
reveals that people who eat breakfast burn more calories throughout the
day. Start a weight lifting exercise routine for twenty minutes a day
to speed up a slow metabolism. A strength training exercise will speed
up a slow metabolism and increase muscle mass, which will help burn
more calories and fat. The Saratoga Regional YMCA offers a variety of
strength and conditioning classes to help boost that metabolism.
Get
at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Weight loss experts
suggest that people who get enough sleep metabolize food more
efficiently during the day. So get started on your workout, get some
rest and you will be on your way to that new spring body.
